About Us

Heritage Lumber Inc., founded in 1996 by Dennis Skinner, is family owned and operated. Our headquarters are firmly rooted in Boise, Idaho. We started simply, buying timber and using jip-po loggers to harvest dead-standing and beetle infested inland Douglas fir from the US Forest Service and other private land owners. We operated our own portable sawmills, producing green rough lumber. In the beginning, we spent long happy days learning and perfecting our craft. We learned how to properly dry our lumber. We managed customer lead times and expanded our delivery services.

From these humble beginnings we quickly expanded our business into reclaimed wood focusing our business model on environmentally friendly wood reclamation well before "living green" became a lifestyle choice for the world at large. Then, when our demand rose, we eventually started buying from the larger established saw mills from all around the Pacific Northwest. Customer satisfaction and sustainable building practices have always guided our actions.

In 2003, we took a giant step forward and lowered our carbon footprint, consequently becoming FSC Certified. This stamp of approval gained credibility for our recycled woods and allowed us to offer new wood under the Forest Stewardship Certified Chain of Custody program. We are proud to lead our industry in offering Green Building products to USGBC and LEED Projects.

We are not, economically, a large company. Yet our production capabilities tell a different story. We can produce almost anything an architect or customer can design. That flexibility means that we can cater to a far greater number and variety of custom building demands, creating hand-crafted lumber for your one-of-a-kind building project. Larger mills simply crank out a high number of uniform building supplies and expect their customers to make do. Our mill works hand-in-hand with each customer, providing specialty woods for each unique architectural challenge. There's no need to take our word for it.
